We are very proud to announce the premieres of five feature-length Cornish films at this year's Cornwall Film Festival.

Dressing Granite


Dressing Granite (director: Bill Scott)Saturday 10 November,  Princess Pavilion 19.30-21.30 Director Bill Scott and producer Laura Hardman bring the Pauline Sheppard stage play to the big screen. Shot entirely on location in Cornwall, Dressing Granite tells the story of Mathew Thomas, a stonemason who works with his father carving headstones out of granite. When his father’s memory starts to deteriorate, Mathew’s hopes of expanding the family business are destroyed. Nursing home bills accumulate and Mathew has to face the reality of losing everything he holds dear. This feature will be followed with a Q&A with director Bill Scott and producer Laura Hardman.

War Rag, a Cornish Film Collective present their first feature film.Niamh’s world is a nightmare, an endless maze disappearing into an infinite darkness that yields up bizarre scenes and characters. But she has made a home here for her children, a shelter from a poisonous world outside, where they live under the protection of the strange friends Niamh has found here. But then come the intruders from outside.






The Midnight Drives

<strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">The <strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">Midnight<strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"> Drives tells the story of Andy (Colin Holt), a divorcee who has custody of his young children for the winter half term. He chooses to travel with them to a bleak, lifeless, out-of-season Cornwall. Struggling to build a relationship with his children Andy is unwilling to waste a single precious minute. When the strain of the days are over Andy takes his sleepy children on a series of spontaneous, exciting and dreamlike excursions that become the midnight drives.


The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Mark Jenkin and producer Simon Harvey.









The Art of Catching Lobsters

<strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">The Art of Catching Lobsters records the remarkable story of fisherman and playwright Nick Darke. His wife Jane captures Nick’s attempts to pass on his knowledge to his sons before he dies. As the months after Nick’s death pass the family realise how much they have absorbed, and they set about carrying on as lobstermen. Jane records this remarkable story with powerful elegance, humour and openness. It is a moving and honest account of loss, grief and hope.


The screening will be followed with a Q&A with Jane Darke.




 




Alive Day




Alive Day (director: Tom Eldridge)

Cornish production company <strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">ikandi media present this powerful documentary. Following 12 disabled US veterans from Iraq as they are released from hospital for an 8 day adventure on the Grand Canyon.


This screening will be followed with a Q&A with production team <strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal">ikandi.
